A Day in the Life of a Big Bear

A day in Sandy Bears begins at 8am when we open for breakfast club! After parental drop off and handover the children come in and are offered food from a selection of breakfasts (see menu). Following this the children are invited to choose a selection of toys to play with that morning.

9am provides another drop off and handover, activities ranging from role play to crafts are set out to encourage development through play in the children’s free choice time.

10am is tidy up time and ‘Morning Circle’. All children and staff sit on the mat and greet each other giving all the opportunity to share ‘news’ and show and tell items before singing our Good Morning Song!

10.15am is snack time. Children are offered a selection of fruit, toast, milk and water.

10.30am brings outdoor play where the children can explore our gardens residents in the mini beast houses (ladybirds, tadpoles and spiders to name a few!) They enjoy helping digging and watering the plants, having a pirate adventure in our ship or develop their gross motor skills on our climbing frame and bikes!

11.15am This provides chance for the children to engage in adult-led small group activities, usually exploring the ‘theme’ for that week (i.e. ‘water week’ we investigated with ice, ‘around the world week’ engaged in tasting sessions of foreign food etc)

12pm is lunch time! Children have the choice to pick a meal from our nutritional menu or bring their own packed lunches.

1pm Children are invited to choose activities once more, indoors and outdoors is accessible for them at all times.

1.45pm Another opportunity for the children to be involved in a small group activity encouraging relationships between children and the staff.

2.30pm Afternoon snack time!

3pm This is home time for some of our children, you will usually find everyone having some quiet time reading and singing together in our cosy book corner. The remaining children are again invited to play with free choice activities.

4pm is tea time! Children have a nutritious home cooked meal for their tea. (see menu)

5-6pm is again handover back to parents to say farewell to Sandy Bear for another day!

**Throughout the day if a child wants to do a different i.e. have a nap there is facilities provided to cater to their needs! **
